Mission :A National Committee of Presidential and Legislative Elections Observers will monitor the elections of October 25, 2009. Its mission consists in observing the process of the presidential and legislative elections of October 24, 2004 , including the presentation of candidacies, the electoral campaign, the voting operations, the counting of votes, the proclamation of results and even appeals submitted to the Constitutional Council. It shall submit a report to the President of the Republic. Chaired by Mr Abdelwaheb El Behi, the former president of the Tunisian Bar Association and the vice-president of the international human rights committee of the International Bar Association, the Observatory will endeavor to accomplish its mission in all independence and transparency, away from any political affiliation and while respecting the law. The Observatory is open to all citizens and all observers, both Tunisian and foreign, in order to best accomplish its mission and ensure the transparency and legality of the electoral process. CompositionComposed of 14 members, including judges, lawyers, university professors and journalists, this body is characterized by its impartiality, as its members have no political allegiance.
