2009 Elections: “Ettajdid” candidate submits candidacy for presidential elections

September 18, 2009--The Secretary General of the “Ettajdid” Movement, Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim, submitted, on Thursday at the seat of the Constitutional Council at le Bardo, his candidacy for the presidential elections due to of October 25, 2009.

In a statement following the submission of his candidacy, he said that the “Ettajdid” Movement militates for the setting up of a fair democratic system which requires engaging a comprehensive national dialogue.

Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim also claimed that the main purpose of his candidacy is to strengthen political competition in the presidential race, guarantee equal chances to all candidates and enable them to present their programs and views freely.

He also stressed his movement’s commitment to the transparency, integrity, respect of the law, neutrality and secrecy of the ballot of the presidential elections.

Mr. Ibrahim pointed out that his candidacy results from the desire to build a better future for Tunisia, adding that the need for a responsible opposition that does not deny the positive aspects but t also criticizes short shortcomings, can only contribute to the country’s development in different areas.

The president of the Constitutional Council as well as the chairman of the National Elections Observatory attended the ceremony.
