September 9, 2009--The Secretary General of the Unionist Democratic Union (UDU) Mr Ahmed Inoubli, submitted on Wednesday his candidacy for the 2009 presidential elections at the premises of the Constitutional Council in Tunis.

In a statement made following the submission of his candidacy, Mr Inoubli reaffirmed his party's commitment to the Republican system and to the country's democratic values. He also stressed UDU’s determination to fight against regressive influences and acculturation reiterating his commitment to the country's progressive choices based on social justice, rationalism and modernity. Mr Inoubli met with the president and the members of the Constitutional Council. The ceremony was attended by the president of the Observatory for the 2009 elections, and the members of UDU's political bureau.
