August 28, 2009--The Secretary General of the Popular Unity Party (PUP) presented on Friday his candidacy for the 2009 presidential elections which are due to take place on October 25, 2009.

In a statement made on the same day, Mr Bouchiha says that his candidacy marks the place of choice occupied by PUP on the Tunisian political scene, as well as it illustrates the degree of evolution and maturity of Tunisian political life.

He also voiced his optimism as to the political context in which the elections are taking place, adding that it represents yet another step in the consecration of pluralism and democracy in Tunisia.
