September 24, 2009--Mr Mustapha Ben Jaafar, Secretary-General of the Democratic Forum for Labour and Liberties (FDTL) submitted on Thursday his candidacy for 2009 Presidential elections.

In a statement following his submission at the headdquarters of the Constitutional Council at le Bardo in Tunis, the FDTL Secretary General said he was running for the presidency of the republic in his capacity as first official of this party.

He pointed out that his choice to take part in the elections was driven by his high sense of citizenship and commitment to preserve the general interest.

Mr Ben Jaafar also said that his party will continue its activism to lay down the foundations of citizenship in society, in such a manner as to guarantee rights and preserve gains.

He was welcomed by the chairman and members of the Constitutional Council.

The ceremony was attended by the chairman of the National Observatory of Presidential and Legislative Elections, and the members of the FDTL political bureau.

Mr Ben Jaafar is the fifth candidate to submit his candidacy to the Presidential elections which are due to take place on October 25,2009.
